We will implement increased cleaning and increased signage around campuses promoting health safety practices and sanitation practices, as well as frequent reminders of hand hygiene and social distancing. While there is an order in place, face coverings will be required for staff and students older than 10, as required by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Bryan ISD will comply with all health safety recommendations established by the Governor, the health department, and the Texas Education Agency. Safety and health measures may be adjusted based on current guidelines and conditions.

All staff members will receive COVID-19 prevention training prior to the opening of school. All students will receive instruction on health protocols related to minimizing the spread of COVID-19.

Bryan ISD will follow TEA guidelines for class size while arranging classrooms in a way that allows for social distancing. The maximum number of students per class varies by grade level and also varies by class at the secondary level. We expect that some families will prefer online learning so our hope is to lower class sizes once we have that information.

Cafeterias will be open to serve breakfast and lunch daily. The physical setup for the cafeteria and the schedule will be adjusted to reduce the number of students in the cafeteria at one time. Each campus cafeteria space will be evaluated to ensure social distancing. Some students will be eating in the cafeteria, spaced according to the recommended guidelines, and other students may eat in the classroom if necessary. Health safety measures will be adjusted based on current guidelines and conditions.

Yes, transportation will continue to be provided for all who qualify but we encourage parents to bring their child to school if at all possible. Bus transportation is provided for all special education students and eligible general education students who live two or more miles from their school or in areas specially designated by the Transportation Department.

Ridership will remain at typical district capacity, however we anticipate fewer riders because some students will select At-Home learning. To support contact tracing, students will be assigned seats, and a seating chart will be maintained by the bus driver. Face coverings will be required for the bus driver, aids and students older than 10 as required by the TEA. The use of provided hand sanitizer will be highly encouraged when boarding and exiting the bus. Signage reminding students and staff about social distancing, handwashing, and infection prevention will be posted throughout the school. Elementary classrooms will be assigned specific bathrooms, breakfast, lunch, and gym access times to reduce the number of students in any given area as much as possible. Secondary students will be encouraged to follow social distancing guidelines.

Safety guidelines will continue to be monitored and revised accordingly for conducting all on-campus workouts, rehearsals, and practices. The district will continue to follow all guidelines provided by UIL, TEA, and the state. These safety guidelines will be published as soon as they become available. Some students in grades 7-12 may also elect the hybrid option thereby only coming to school for these classes or other highly specialized courses.

As we finalize the master schedules to coincide with Blinn College, more details will be forthcoming.

Elementary campuses will limit the number of students at recess at one time and create different play areas for activities. Students and staff will be required to use hand sanitizer and wash their hands before and after recess.

Yes, students who select at-home or face-to-face learning may participate in clubs and/or organizations. Meetings may be held virtually, as applicable. Students must have their own transportation to and from campus.

What happens if a student or a teacher tests positive for COVID-19? Will the entire classroom have to quarantine? What if multiple classrooms and students/staff are impacted? Will students be able to participate in At-Home Learning during the quarantine?

 

Students or staff who test positive for COVID-19 will be sent home to recover. When notification of a possible exposure occurs, in coordination with local health authorities, the campus/district will conduct contact tracing (going back over who the student has been in direct contact with). Based on the results, a determination will be made as to whether an entire classroom or multiple classrooms are required to quarantine. In the event students are required to temporarily quarantine, the education of these students will continue through At-Home Learning for the duration of the quarantine period. If this takes place, instructional resources will be distributed as applicable.

During the period of the school closure, students will remain at home and will engage in learning activities that are delivered through the online learning management systems, Schoology or Edgenuity. Students will be provided flexibility to participate in online classes with teacher interaction and engagement. A student’s schedule may reflect short periods of synchronous learning scheduled throughout the day followed by time for independent, asynchronous learning activities. It should also include breaks and lunch. The schedule will vary by grade, course, or student. A caregiver will need to be available to support younger students in navigating the daily schedule and providing assistance with the learning as needed. During At-Home Learning, time management will be critical to student success. Students, teachers, and parents should utilize frequent communication regarding daily schedules and assignments to ensure that students are progressing towards mastery of the learning outcomes. If this takes place, instructional resources will be distributed as applicable.

 

The benefit of an online learning management system (Schoology) is to streamline all digital tools and content for a more connected learning experience for students. Schoology helps organize assignments, boosts collaboration, and fosters communication. For those students who choose On-Campus Learning, these tools will be used as a digital extension of the classroom. Resources will also be available for parents to learn how to support students in navigating learning through these digital tools.

Overall progress on learning outcomes will be communicated in a “traditional” format using numeric grades. Assignments and grades will be entered into the Home Access Center. The expectations for coursework and guidelines for grading for On-Campus Learning and At-Home Learning will be the same.

Yes. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has indicated that STAAR testing will still occur during the 2020-2021 school year, in compliance with state and federal legislation.

Due to the scheduling complexities inherent in these two options, parents will be asked to make a commitment for at least one full six-week grading period. Special circumstances that affect a family will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the campus principal. Please note that if a student switches between On-Campus Learning and At-Home Learning, then that student may not have the same teacher(s) or course schedule, as teachers may or may not be teaching both an At-Home and an On-Campus class. Students may not be guaranteed to be assigned to their home campus based on staffing and grade level/course seat availability.

For current students, parents will complete the commitment form no later than August 3rd at 8:00 a.m. Upon enrollment, new students will be provided the opportunity to select their instructional model.

 

All students who do not have a commitment in place by August 3rd will be placed
in On-Campus, Face-to-Face learning.
